Scorpionally Challenged!

An online masterclass for rope or sling artists who love the 🦂 shape but find traditional variations hard AF!

This 1.5 hour deep dive online masterclass we consider the many ways that wraps or alternative positioning can help us make the scorpion shape on rope and/or sling.

🦂Why I created this masterclass

Scorpion is an inverted backbend balance, often entered dynamically and typically held with one hand behind the back and one overhead (aka scorpion handstand). It’s become a classic aerial shape and beefcake skill, but for some of us it’s a SUPER challenging one to hold in this way. It requires shoulder and core stability, pushing AND pulling strength, hip extension, and nuanced relative positioning of the hands/shoulders/hips to find balance 😮‍💨

Are you scorpionally challenged? I 💯 am 🙋‍♀️

Scorpion handstand was on my aerial skills shopping list for soooooooo long (don’t pretend you don’t have one too 🫣) and while I did eventually get there, it has never felt a totally comfortable or consistent skill for my body (limited hip extension, long limbs and short torso).

So while working on this skill is a 💯 worthwhile long term strength project that can feed into other skills, there are STILL SO MANY OTHER WAYS TO SCORP! Ways that use wraps to support us to make this satisfying shape in the air, that feel strong and consistent, and are still equally delightful for audiences.

These alternative scorps for the scorpionally challenged is what this masterclass is all about!

🦂Workshop content

In this 1.5 hour Zoom masterclass we:

🦂 talk about the engagements necessary to find the scorpion shape
🦂 practice some ground-based drills to help
🦂 look in detail at how the different wraps or alternative placements work to support us to find scorpion on rope and on sling
🦂 discuss how some can be used as progressions for ‘the hard AF scorpion’!
🦂 cover entries and exits including potential for sequencing

🤓 This is a theory workshop and we won’t be on-apparatus BUT we will go through some ground-based drills before getting into videos of the wraps/entries/exits for you to try in your own practice.

💻 You will have access to the recording to download and keep forever.
